How to Apply

The call for new Cohort teams to apply occurs annually through communication from the Virginia Department of Education to division superintendents.

The Application process is online and posted here on the VaLIN website. Each application must include diverse team members, a designated division team leader from central office, one or two Profile of a Virginia Graduate key local priorities, responses to key questions, and a commitment statement signed by each team.

Once the application is submitted, the steering team reads applications and selects Cohort teams using criteria that takes into account information about each division to create a balanced cohort representative of:

  • Region
  • Size
  • Key Priorities
  • Geographic Designation
  • Economic Data
  • Student Demographics

New Cohorts begin their work together each year with a kickoff Institute designed to form collaborative teams, introduce team members to team members from other divisions in the network, and develop first steps towards local actions that support implementation of the Profile of a Virginia Graduate.
